3rd Hole

Good luck to those members commencing their tilt at the Club Championship this weekend.

This Saturday and Sunday will see the first and second round played, before the field is cut to the top 12 players for the 3rd round on Saturday, 11 November. The final round will see the top 8 players plus ties in each grade play on Sunday, 12 November to decide our 2023 Club Champions.

It is extremely pleasing to see that several of our lady members have entered the Women's Club Championships this year, which will be contested over 36 holes on Sunday 5th and 12th November.

Members eligible to vote in the 2023 Board Elections should have received an email yesterday with the link to the voting site and their login details. In some cases, the email has gone to members Junk or Spam folders, so if you have yet to receive the email, please check these email folders.

Should the email still not be available, please contact Rob Blain at the office on: manager@eastlakegolfclub.com.au.

4th Fairway

Play the Ball as it Lies

Members who have played the course recently will no doubt testify to the superb condition of the fairways and greens ahead of the 2023 Club Championships.

As a consequence of this conditioning, the Match Committee has made the decision to remove preferred lies with players required to play the ball as it lies for the Club Championships commencing tomorrow Saturday, 4 November.

1st Tee with Grow Mat

Course Condition: Tees

Following the renovation of the tees last month, the slower recovery of some of our more problematic tees highlights one of the challenges faced by Simon and his team.

The delay in the recovery of these tees is due to a combination of factors, in particular shade, tee size and shape and the approximate 60,000 rounds played annually at the Club.  Reducing the likelihood of balls being hit into neighboring properties, often requires the tees to be placed in certain spots which creates wear in these 'safer' teeing areas also.

Whilst it is planned that the course safety changes proposed by course architect Craig Parry will help relieve the pressure on these tees in the long term, we will likely look to perform tee renovations following the Club Championships in future years, when the soil temperature should make the recovery a swifter process.

Melbourne Cup Day

Unfortunately, the Melbourne Cup BBQ buffet planned for next Tuesday's 'Race that Stops a Nation' has failed to attract the crowd we had hoped and as such we will unfortunately not be proceeding with the buffet function on this day.

Instead, members and their guests will still be able to attend the Club and watch the big race, with the Club's Ala Carte menu available between 12:00pm - 3:00pm.

Members wishing to make a booking can do so by contacting Andres Michelsen at: operations@eastlakegolfclub.com.au.

Moore Park

Moore Park GC News

Members will no doubt have seen the news in the past week of the State Government's decision to halve the Moore Park GC property at the conclusion of their lease in 2026 to open green space to the populace.

Moore Park has established a website in response to the Government's announcement, where concerned golfers can add their name to the petition against such a proposal. Members wishing for further information on the proposal or to add their name to the petition can do so by clicking on the link below:
