3rd Hole

Club Championships

After rain postponed the second round the previous weekend, the final three rounds of the Club Championship and final two rounds of the A Reserve, B Grade and C Grade Championships were completed over the weekend.

Defending Club Champion Peter Tunks showed his class by finishing with a four-round total of 302 (75, 74, 75 & 78) to claim victory by five shots from Darren Spalding. Remarkably, Peter eagled the 15th hole twice during his final 36 holes on the Sunday, on his way to claiming his third Club Championship.

In the A Reserve Championship, Sean Appo (244) returned a terrific final round 74 off the stick to claim victory over Robert Farrugia (246) by two strokes. Sean's final round nett 66 was the best score of the day, one shot ahead of Patrick Forrester who jumped up into third place following his 77 scratch in the final round.

Barak Rodwell (261) played consistently across all three rounds in the B Grade Championship, increasing his lead after each round to finish 10 shots clear of joint runners up James Katholos and Bruce Colbourne (271).

Finally in the C Grade Championship, John Kyriazis (285) maintained his overnight lead throughout the final 18 holes, to claim a five-stroke victory from Graham Doyle (290).

Congratulations to all our 2023 Club Champions and to all those who competed in this year's Championships. The full results can be found by clicking the link below:

Chipping Green Hedge Removal

Members attending the Club over the next two weeks will notice some significant work being done to the area to the right of the chipping green (bordering Isaac Smith Street).

Tree excavators were onsite this week to remove the existing Hibiscus Tiliaceus hedge, the roots of which have grown under the cart path and the chipping green. With this area now clear and the stumps having been ground out, the Club will soon commence the installation of a new fence along the Club boundary and the planting of a new native Callistemon (Bottlebrush) hedge.

Commencing next week, work will also commence in this area to replace the existing stairs to Isaac Smith Street as well as the installation of an access ramp from the existing pedestrian pathway. Pads will also be installed from the existing paths onto the chipping green, putting green and 1st tee to reduce the excessive wear these areas receive on a daily basis.

It is anticipated that these projects will help improve the visual as members and guests first arrive at the Club and should be complete by the end of November. Progress images of the tree removal can be seen below.

Mixed & Bronze Pennants

Expressions of interest for the Club's 2024 Mixed and Bronze Pennant teams are now being taken, with both Pennants due to commence in February.

The Metropolitan Mixed Pennant is a male and female 4BBB handicap match play format, where Eastlake was narrowly defeated in the semifinal earlier this year. The Club has drawn Bexley, Woollahra and Mona Vale in next year's competition and we are seeking both male and female members to represent the Club on Sundays in February and March.

The Women's Bronze Pennant is played amongst Sydney clubs and is open to ladies with a GA handicap of 16.0 to 38.0. The Club's finished Runners Up in last year's competition and we are hoping to go one better this year. If you are available and interested in representing the Club in either of these Pennants, please contact Andres Michelsen at: operations@eastlakegolfclub.com.au.
