Merry Christmas from

Eastlake Golf Club

The staff and Board of Eastlake Golf Club wish all members a Merry Christmas, and hope you'll be able to enjoy the festive season surrounded by family and friends.

The Club and course will be open throughout the Christmas and New Year period, with Christmas Day being the only day the Club, course and premises will be closed.

Ladies Sapphire Trophy & Christmas Lunch

The Club was delighted to host fifty of our lady members yesterday for the final of the Sapphire Trophy and Christmas lunch. Despite the heat, our eight Sapphire Stroke finalists played well with Elizabeth Lacey, Mi Hyon and Wendy McCauley all finishing tied on 74 nett, with Wendy McCauley claiming victory on a count back. We are grateful that life member Phillipa Downey was present at the lunch and presentation and was able to present Wendy with her trophy.

Phalika Carew won the Stableford competition on the day with a great score of 36 points on a count back from Pat Fulford, and it was extremely pleasing to see many of our new lady members in attendance and contributing to the festive mood of this event. The final results of the Sapphire Trophy can be found below along with some photos of members enjoying their Christmas lunch:

2023 Gold Medal

Congratulations to George Laver who claimed victory earlier this month in the Gold Medal playoff. With all those members who won a monthly medal qualifying for this prestigious event, George handled the pressure extremely well to return a score of 66 nett to claim victory by 3 strokes from Robert Faludi (69 nett).

Drummond Golf Australian Championships

Drummond Golf Australian Championships

Congratulations to Eastlake GC member Phalika Carew who claimed victory in the 2023 Drummond Golf Australian Championships at Peninsular Kingswood GC, Victoria.

Having previously won the Drummond Golf NSW Championship earlier this year, Phalika was flown down to Victoria to represent NSW in the final and claimed victory with 31 points on a countback in extremely windy conditions on the difficult Peninsular Kingswood layout.

Congratulations to Phalika who is pictured (left) with Brett Ogle accepting her trophy.

Save Moore Park Golf Course

The Club has been contacted this week by the Board of Moore Park Golf Club asking interested members to register their disappointment and opposition to the State Government's recent decision to covert nine-holes of their course to public parkland. Should members wish, they can listen to a podcast on the subject by clicking the link below or register their opposition to this decision by clicking the link to the website.

Bronze Pennants

Expressions of interest are being sought for the Women's Bronze Pennant team which is due to commence their season in February.

The Women's Bronze Pennant is played amongst Sydney clubs and is open to ladies with a GA handicap of 16.0 to 38.0. The Club's finished Runners Up in last year's competition and we are hoping to go one better next year.

If you are available and interested in representing the Club, please contact Andres Michelsen at: operations@eastlakegolfclub.com.au.

Australian Open volunteers

In our last edition we congratulated our green staff on their efforts volunteering at this year's Australian Open but neglected to thank members Stephen Pracy, John Stanley and Anne Tilbury who offered up their time and expertise as volunteers during the event.

The success of these events in largely due to the efforts of such people and we thank them for their efforts.
