Happy New Year from

Eastlake Golf Club

On behalf of the staff and Board of Eastlake Golf Club, we would like to wish all our members a happy and prosperous New Year.

With many members enjoying leave during this period, now is an excellent time to get out and enjoy the course and hopefully shave a few strokes off your handicap as part of your New Year's resolution.

Christmas Downpour

Members may have seen on the news the rain event experienced in Kingsford, Eastlakes and surrounding suburbs on Christmas eve that caused significant disruption to the course in the days immediately following Christmas.

110mm of rain fell in the space of an hour around 5pm on Christmas eve which flooded the greenkeeper's shed and inundated the course, in particular the cart paths and bunkers.

Our course team have been hard at work this week repairing cart paths and fixing the bunker washouts, a process that is expected to take several days, during which some bunkers will remain GUR.

The course however stood up extremely well to the deluge, with play resuming on Boxing Day and carts back from Thursday, 28 December. The pictures below show the extent of the rainfall and damage:

Replacement Boundary Fence & Callistemon Hedge

Members will be pleased to see the work to remove the old Hibiscus hedge and replacement of the Club's boundary fence, is now largely complete with only some minor planting to take place.

The old Hibiscus hedge had grown roots under the cart path and into the chipping green and was robbing the green of both water and sunlight. This hedge was removed along with the old boundary fence and replaced with a timber fence of the same style as the boundary fence of the 18th hole and Astrolabe Park.

During this process, the two pencil pines were also removed and the stairs to Isaac Smith Street were replaced. A new Callistemon (bottle brush) hedge has been planted along the Boundary fence and the grass along the chipping green re-laid with a plastic barrier to prevent wear.

The Club will now apply to Crownlands to plant native plants on the other side of the fence, to ensure the visual of this area remains attractive and welcoming to members and guests of the Club.
