Eastlake Open Winner

2024 Eastlake Open

Congratulations to Lynwood GC member Ryan Fletcher who returned a score of 3 under par (69) to win the Eastlake Open on the weekend. Ryan finished equal with Andrew Sutton (Wakehurst) however Andrew was unable to return for the sudden death playoff meaning Ryan was named the victor and Andrew claimed second place.

Eastlake member Scott Robertson finished third with a terrific score of 2 under par (70), whilst Jason Parata claimed the Net Prize (70) and Chris Hicks won the Senior trophy with 74 scratch.

Feedback from competitors was extremely positive, especially regarding the slick putting surfaces.

May Medal

Members are advised that the forecasted rain today has yet to eventuate, so tomorrow's Medal will proceed as planned and a decision on carts will be made in the morning. The timesheet for tomorrow's Medal will remain open in the morning so members can cancel directly without having to call the Pro Shop in the case of rain.

Preferred lies will be in place (fairways only) for tomorrow's competition,
so players may lift, clean and place within 30cm.

13th Hole

13th Hole Cart Paths

Members are advised that the planned cart path work on the 13th hole is scheduled to commence the week of May 13th. This work will involve a turning circle near the tee and a short path along the length of the tee, as well as a new path from the top of the hill and around the side and rear of the green.

It is anticipated that whilst this work is underway, the following measures will be in place for golfer safety:

- Hole 2B will be in play for the 13th hole.
- The 6th hole will be played from the start of the fairway (to allow access up-the-hill after the 12th hole).
- The 11th & 12th holes may need to be closed at times during this process for player safety.

Once the Club receives full details of the work schedule, we will update members of the temporary course measures in play.

14th Hole Bunkers

Bunker Repair Process

Members playing the course this week will have noticed the terrific work done by our course team to return some of our bunkers to play following heavy downpours early this year.

This process is quite labor intensive, as over time these bunkers fill with silt preventing water from penetrating to the native sand underneath.

To rectify the situation, the team needs to remove the contaminated sand, in some cases breaking through the native coffee rock to expose the free draining native sand underneath. This layer is then shaped and levelled, and new USGA spec bunker sand is installed to a depth of 300mm.

Whilst very labor intensive, the bunker renovation process produces much more consistent conditions within the Club's bunkers, and further repair work is planned in the coming weeks. We share this level of detail so members can appreciate the extensive work that goes into maintaining this costly aspect of the course and be aware of the effects that recent intense downpours can have on bunker playability.

New Menu Options

New Bistro Menu

Members will be pleased to see the release of a new Bistro menu from next week featuring a range of new options in addition to some of the old favorites.

Three new salad options will feature in the new menu, along with several new entree / smaller serve meals for those looking for something lighter.

Some of the new dishes expected to be popular include:

- Crispy skin salmon served with chips or salad.
- Spaghetti Bolognese with parmesan cheese.
- Southern Fried Barramundi burger with chips.

Members can expect the new menu to be available from the middle of next week and we hope you enjoy these new offerings.

Tee Draw Update

Members are advised that following a couple of member requests, there will be a slight change to the format of the Thursday night tee draw. Traditionally the last member out each tee draw is given the first opportunity to book the following week, however in future the final three members out in each tee draw will be given the first, second and third opportunity to book the following week. It is hoped that this minor change will be fairer for all and provide some relief for those drawn out late each Thursday evening.

On-Course Concerns

A couple of incidents have arisen on-course recently where members have confronted a fellow member practicing, thinking they were a member of the public. Whilst we appreciate members showing concern for their course, facilities and club rules, such interactions can occasionally leave both parties upset and feeling unwelcome.

To avoid repeats of these instances, we would simply ask that members alert the Pro Shop or Office staff as to the issue, so staff can respond to the matter. We wish for all members to enjoy their time practicing and playing on the course, and staff will often recognize members on-course, thus preventing any embarrassing situations in future.

Carol Ashton

Carol Ashton win Lakes Salver

Congratulations to Eastlake GC member Carol Ashton who won The Lakes Bronze Salver recently with a terrific score of 37 points. The Lakes Bronze Salver is open to amateur female golfers with an Australian Handicap from 15.7 – 25.7 and always attracts a strong field.

Carol's score saw her finish one stroke clear of second place and she can be seen pictured (right) accepting her trophy during the presentation.
