Bunker Repair ProcessMembers playing the course this week will have noticed the terrific work done by our course team to return some of our bunkers to play following heavy downpours early this year. This process is quite labor intensive, as over time these bunkers fill with silt preventing water from penetrating to the native sand underneath. To rectify the situation, the team needs to remove the contaminated sand, in some cases breaking through the native coffee rock to expose the free draining native sand underneath. This layer is then shaped and levelled, and new USGA spec bunker sand is installed to a depth of 300mm. Whilst very labor intensive, the bunker renovation process produces much more consistent conditions within the Club's bunkers, and further repair work is planned in the coming weeks. We share this level of detail so members can appreciate the extensive work that goes into maintaining this costly aspect of the course and be aware of the effects that recent intense downpours can have on bunker playability. |
