Decision to cancel carts following inclement weather

Members will be keenly aware that Sydney has been inundated with rain for the last few weekends, with the course having received 620mm of rain since the start of May (monthly average is 120mm). These heavy rain periods have unfortunately meant carts have often been unavailable for those who need them, a fact that Management is keenly aware of and as such it is a not a decision the team takes lightly.

The fact is, the frequent heavy rain the course has received in recent weeks has seen the water table rise significantly, meaning any additional rain can result in water pooling in the low-lying areas of the course. Should carts be permitted during these periods, there is a strong likelihood of damage to these areas of the course, and with no grass growth through the winter period any recovery would take months.

The course team have worked tirelessly in recent weeks to bring these areas back into play, and we are very grateful for the team's efforts and the course conditioning despite the ongoing rain periods. In addition to almost non-stop bunker repairs, the team having been employing equipment like the Air2G2 machine (pictured below) to improve the drainage in areas around the course.

We hope members understand the reasoning for the cancellation of carts and appreciate that the Club strives to have carts available as soon as the course conditions permit.

Master Pennant

Master Pennants

Commiserations to our gallant Master Pennant team who missed out on progressing through the finals on the weekend by the barest of margins. Holding a slender lead over Woolooware going into their final match at Bankstown, the team arrived to find the course extremely wet by playable.

The team played well in the conditions, but the local knowledge was too big an obstacle with the team going down 7-1. Sadly, Woolooware's match against The Coast was washed out due to the condition of Woolooware's course and the half point gained was sufficient for them to progress through to the knockout stage by a mere 4.5 individual games.

Despite the agonizing result, the team deserves to be congratulated on their performance throughout the season and we thank them for their efforts in representing the Club. Members can view the results and final leaderboard by clicking the link below:

Red Penalty Area

Local Rule: 16th Hole

The establishment of the new concrete paths around the course has warranted the creation of new local rules. One such rule is on Hole 16 where the kerb edge (nearest the green) of the path defines the red penalty (hazard) area.

Should your ball enter this area, players can re-hit from the original spot or drop within two club lengths of the spot the ball crossed the edge of the penalty area (no-nearer the hole). It should be noted that both these methods of relief are subject to a one-stroke penalty.

Club's Critical Incident Response Plan

In addition to the regular first aid training of staff, the Club has recently invested in the creation of an Incident Response Plan. Pictured below, this plan shows the nearest defibrillators on the property as well as the points on entry should an ambulance need to attend the site. Staff are being trained on the use of this plan and how best to respond in the case of an emergency. Members can assist this process by:

Step 1. Notify the Club immediately so staff can respond with a first aid kit and defibrillator.
Step 2. Call an ambulance (from the site of the injury), answering the questions of ambulance staff and providing the patient with first aid / CPR to the best of their ability (DRSABC).
Step 3. Assist trained first aid staff and ambulance officers in the management / treatment of the patient.

Statistics show that for every minute delay in applying a defibrillator to a patient suffering cardiac arrest, the patient's chance of survival decreases by 10% and the early commencement of CPR is likewise essential to the patient's chances of survival. The Club is planning a session for members on the topic and details will be communicated in future newsletters.

15th Hole

15th Hole Cart Path Turfing

Members playing the course this week will have noticed that the 15th hole was closed briefly while the course team prepare to turf the edges around the new cart path.

Whilst these new paths complement the holes well, they do require the team to build up the surrounds and re-turf these areas to ensure they look good and don't become a trip hazard.

Further work is planned for the 15th hole in the coming weeks, with drainage and garden work planned for the sandy area under the pine trees. This will further improve the playability of the hole and reduce erosion and sand movement during periods of intense rain.
