Eastlake Players Championship

Good luck to the finalists in tomorrow's final of the Player's Championship. Much like for the Fed-Ex Cup, the final standings dictate the head start each finalist has ahead of tomorrow's final round.

AGM Course Safety Query

At the recent AGM, the Treasurer was asked whether the Board had prepared a full budget for the Course Safety Works on the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 18th holes. The Treasurer advised that a preliminary budget and scope of works had been prepared for the Board, with an initial figure of $650,000 approved, contingent upon the Club’s plans receiving approval from Bayside Council. The final budget will be confirmed once Council approval is obtained.

The development applications, currently displayed within the Clubhouse, are currently under review by Bayside Council. The Club is working to meet Council’s requirements by providing all necessary supporting reports. While we had hoped for approval by the end of this year, the process now appears likely to extend into early 2025.

Once these applications are approved, the Club will provide members with detailed updates, including:

The final budget for the course safety works
The planned stages and timeline for the commencement of work
Any potential course / hole disruptions that may occur during the construction period

We thank members for their patience and understanding as we work through this regulatory process.

Senior Championship Playoff

Congratulations to Peter Tunks who claimed victory last weekend in the 18-hole playoff for the 2024 Senior Championship.

Peter finished the 36-hole stroke play tied with Mick Stephens and Chris Hicks, however his 74 scratch in the December Medal was good enough to finish clear of both Mick and Chris in Saturday's extremely hot and testing conditions.

We congratulate Peter on his win and to all three Club stalwarts on their fine golf throughout this year's Senior Championship.

Gold Medal

Congratulations to Club President Matthew Zee who claimed victory in this year's Gold Medal Playoff, held in conjunction with the December Medal.

Contested by all members who won a Monthly Medal during the past twelve months, Matt's score of 70 nett, saw him finish one shot clear of second place Laurence O'Dwyer (71) with Jess Ong and Stephen Wong finishing tied third one shot adrift.

Well done Matt on the victory, which will be recognized along with all our other Major Trophy winners at tomorrow afternoon's Presentation Day.

Club & Bistro Operating Hours

With the festive season fast approaching, the Club is pleased to advise members of the following operating hours for the Clubhouse and Bistro.

Hole Sponsorship

The Club's new tee signs have arrived this week and we will soon commence the process of installing them around the course. To-date we have had several members express interest in the Hole Sponsorship Program and commence artwork for their chosen hole signage.

This initiative allows sponsors to advertise their business to the more than 60,000 members and guests who visit our course each year. Sponsor's signs will feature prominently directly underneath our new hole signage, ensuring strong visibility throughout the 12-month sponsorship period.

The cost to become a hole sponsor is $5,000, offering an excellent chance to support Eastlake while gaining significant exposure to our golfing community. Members interested in this opportunity can find the sponsorship proposal booklet with full details below. New Reciprocal Clubs

The Board is pleased to announce the following Clubs have recently entered into reciprocal agreements with Eastlake Golf Club:

- Melville Glades (Perth, WA)
- Latrobe Golf Club (Melbourne, Vic) (pictured)
- Oxley Golf Club (Brisbane, Qld)

Members travelling domestically within Australia now have the benefit of several courses open to them within each Capital city, where they can play without having to pay or at significantly reduced rates. Members wishing to play at these or other reciprocal clubs are requested to arrange a Letter of Introduction with Office staff prior to making a booking with the respective Club.

Phillipa Downey Cup

Yesterday saw the running of the annual Phillipa Downey Cup, an 18-hole Women's Par competition played in honour of Eastlake Golf Club's sole life member.

This year's winner with a terrific score of +1 was Marilyn Joma who finished two shots clear of Helen Elisseou in second place.

Congratulations to Marilyn who can be seen holding the trophy presented by Phillipa Downey.

Match Play Championships

The first round of both the Handicap Match Play Championship and the Midweek Match Play Cup are now underway, with players having until December 31st to complete their first-round matches.

We wish all players luck as they attempt to progress through the knockout rounds and look forward to seeing who will be crowned the winners. The draw for these match play(s) can be found below:
