Club Half Yearly Results

The Club continues to make significant investments in course improvements and infrastructure, ensuring that Eastlake remains one of Sydney's premier public access courses. Over the first six months of the financial year, we have undertaken several major projects, including:

  • Replacement of the Clubhouse roof
  • Installation of solar panels on Clubhouse
  • New cart paths on the 13th hole
  • Development applications and reports for Bayside Council for course safety work.
  • Tree removal and landscaping on the 4th and 6th holes
  • Upgraded drinks cart and (9) new petrol carts
  • Irrigation system upgrades on the 2nd and 17th holes and a new bore on the 12th hole
  • Two new course machines (excavator and bobcat)
  • New hole and advertising signage

While these investments have contributed to a net loss of $4,500 for the first half of the financial year, the Club's overall financial position remains strong. Importantly, all these improvements have been funded through Club revenue rather than dipping into money reserves set aside for future capital works, such as the upcoming course safety projects.

We appreciate the continued support of members as we invest in the long-term future of Eastlake.

Top 100 Public Access Rankings

Eastlake Golf Club has earned an impressive 51st place in Golf Australia magazine's Top 100 Public Access Courses, a ranking that highlights the dedication of the course team in maintaining the course to the highest standard. This recognition is a proud moment for the club, as it places Eastlake ahead of respected peers such as Noosa Springs, Cypress Lakes, The Coast, Mona Vale, Coolum and Sandhurst, showcasing the club's position among Australia's top-tier golf courses.

This achievement reflects the consistent hard work and commitment of the staff, who ensure the course remains in excellent condition year-round. The Board is committed to ongoing improvements to enhance the course further, with the aim of improving this ranking in the years to come. The full Top 100 list can be found by clicking on the link below and members should take pride in Eastlake's growing reputation:

Reminder: Competition Cancellations & No-Show Penalties

With competition tee times in high demand and in some instances over 40 members on a waitlist, it's crucial that all players take responsibility for managing their bookings. Last-minute cancellations and no-shows create avoidable gaps in the field, preventing fellow members from securing a spot. To ensure fairness, members must cancel before 7:00pm the night prior for weekend and public holiday competitions, allowing enough time for the waitlist to be utilized.

The Club has consistently enforced fines for no-shows, and moving forward, unpaid fines will now be linked to membership accounts. If fines remain unpaid by the specified due date, the member's account will be inactive until the balance is settled. While the Club prefers not to impose penalties, the increasing number of avoidable absences makes this step necessary. Please consider your fellow members and ensure you manage your bookings responsibly.

Beer Pricing Adjustment

As part of our annual pricing review, the Club will be adjusting beverage prices from March 1st to reflect rising supplier costs and the Government's biannual alcohol excise tax increases. Beer prices will increase by 50 cents across the board, with popular choices such as VB, Great Northern, Coopers, and Pure Blonde remaining competitively priced between $7.50 and $8.50.

Despite these necessary adjustments, the Club remains committed to offering value-driven choices for members. The member's beer card promotion will continue, providing a flexible and cost-effective way to enjoy beverages. From March 1st, the price of a beer card will increase to $74, and include popular options like VB, Great Northern, Coopers, Pure Blonde, and Reschs.

Save Carnarvon Golf Club

Carnarvon Golf Club is facing a serious threat from a state government proposal that seeks to convert parts of their course into cemetery space. This move has sparked significant concern among golfers and community members who value the course's role in the region's sporting and social life.

As part of their efforts to oppose this proposal, Carnarvon Golf Club has reached out to Eastlake Golf Club and its members, seeking support to help protect this piece of Sydney's golfing heritage. They have launched a petition to demonstrate the strong opposition of the golfing community. By adding your name, you can help send a clear message to the state government that Sydney's golf courses should be preserved for future generations.

In a related issue, Moore Park Golf Club has put forward an alternative proposal to the State Government's plan to reduce the course to 9 holes by 2026. Their proposal seeks to preserve the full 18-hole course, whilst still offering recreation options for the general public. We encourage all members to support these efforts to protect both Carnarvon Golf Club and Moore Park for the future:

Course Care

Taking care of the course is a shared responsibility, and simple habits like raking bunkers properly and repairing divots and pitch marks go a long way in maintaining fair playing conditions for all members. A poorly raked bunker or an unrepaired divot can impact the experience of the next player, making it essential to follow proper etiquette.

When using bunkers, always enter and exit from the lowest point to avoid damaging the edges, smooth out your footprints and divots and place the rake back inside the bunker with the handle resting on the edge. These small efforts keep bunkers consistent and playable for everyone.

Similarly, the practice facilities require the same level of care as the course itself. When hitting off the grassed areas, take divots in a straight line rather than scattered patches to allow for quicker recovery. Always replace divots where possible or fill them with sand provided. A little effort from each member ensures that the course and practice areas remain in top shape for everyone to enjoy.
